Science for a Circular Economy
Within the European Union, the transition towards a circular economy is firmly on the political agenda and the European Commission launched a new strategy in December 2015. The transition to a circular economy is multi-facetted in its nature; encompassing the need to align research and development of (innovative) technologies in close collaboration with SME’s and industry, with policy making and raising public awareness.
The theme Circular Economy is a strategic challenge for science in general and for all research disciplines within the Dutch Science Organization, NWO. An example is the NWO-institute DIFFER, which performs key research on using renewable energy to make fuels and chemicals out of water, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen. Another example is the work in the research program on business models for a circular economy, but also design strategies for cradle-to-cradle concepts.
NWO and partners are organizing the conference Science for a Circular Economy on June 16th 2016 in Eindhoven, within the Dutch presidency of the European Union in 2016. The aim of the conference is to show front edge research going on in Europe on the topic and to start building an European network on circular economy. The target group will be scientist, entrepreneurs and policy makersfrom Europe, where the aim is to bring together 150 participants.
More details on the program will come available soon. If you have questions please feel free to contact the organizers, Anne Cukier (NWO MaGW,email, Tel: 070-3440 503) and Erik Langereis (DIFFER, email, Tel: 040-3334 754)
