On 9 July, the fifth debate in the 'Making the Circular Built Environment a Reality' debate series will explore the transformative potential of transitioning to a circular society within the Eurodelta region. The Circular Built Environment Hub invites institutes, organisations and individuals to participate in this interactive session.

The transition to a circular society is linked to the climate crisis, resource depletion, biodiversity loss, and more. Unlike the traditional circular economy, which focuses on materials and business models, a circular society aims for holistic sustainability.

Friant et al. (2023) describe seven socio-ecological cycles essential for human and planetary well-being: Earth's biogeochemical cycles, ecosystem cycles, resource cycles, political cycles, economic cycles, technology and education cycles, and social cycles of care. These broaden our view of circularity beyond just "loops" and "flows."

A compelling narrative is crucial for inspiring the shift towards a circular society. This vision must be desirable, fair, and attainable, combining knowledge with beliefs to motivate change despite current uncertainties.

Join an engaging debate with stakeholders from the Eurodelta and the audience on how a region that encompasses the conurbations of the Rhine, Scheldt, and Meuse deltas—including major areas like the Randstad, Brussels, and the Rhine-Ruhr area, with a population of almost 50 million—can transition from a linear to a circular economy.
