This presentation introduces a Circular Economy Maturity Model co-developed by Route Circulair, Utrecht University of Applied Sciences, and Eindhoven University of Technology. Matthijs Bookelmann (Senior Advisor and Lead Circular Maturity Measurement - Route Circulair) and (Arjen Wierikx – PhD Candidate at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences & Eindhoven University of Technology) will explore the rationale behind creating a standardized framework for measuring circular maturity, highlighting how design science—merging academic research with industry insights—was pivotal in shaping the model.

Attendees will discover how the maturity model assesses a company’s circular performance based on ten dimensions, offering actionable recommendations to spur improvement. We will also showcase real-world applications, from free individual company assessments to guided trajectories, emphasizing how our evidence-based tool drives awareness, activation, and acceleration toward a circular economy. Finally, we’ll share how aggregated findings from over 500 organizations enable deeper insights for broader research and policy, supporting the consortiums mission to help 10,000 companies transition toward a circular economy by 2030.

The Circular Industries talks

The goal of the Circular Industries talks is to share knowledge across Leiden, Delft and Erasmus and to complement and deepen the knowledge already available within the Circular Industries Hub. The talks are organized on Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00. The talks are online (Microsoft Teams).
