The Centre for Sustainability is playing an important role in developing sustainable education. To underline this, David Peck presented a keynote address at the 8th Conference on ‘Engineering Education for Sustainable Development’ from 4-7 September, 2016 in Bruges, Belgium (EESD 2016).
EESD 2016 addressed the challenge of ‘Building a circular economy together’ by analysing the implications for engineering education. Furthermore, at the conference – under the heading of ‘Beyond the triple helix’, beyond an interaction between academia, industry and public authorities – the involvement of other stakeholders in formulating the expectations towards engineers was debated.
After the event David Peck said
Following my keynote, entitled 'Building a circular economy: Education', there was considerable interest from a range of international participants on the educational challenges and on how the Leiden Delft Erasmus Centre for Sustainability is providing the answers.
Of particular note was a detailed and constructive interaction with Prof. Walter Stahel and Prof. Nicholas A. Ashford from MIT, USA. Other Leiden Delft Erasmus Centre for Sustainability colleagues presenting at the conference were Karel Mulder and Emma Fromberg. Thanks go to Prof. Bernard Mazijn for co-ordinating the conference.
