The transition from sustainability (neutralizing human impact on the environment) towards regeneration (restoring the land’s and social systems’ self-reinforcing and resilience capacities) implies a fundamental cultural and ideological paradigm shift. Creative thinkers, artists and designers offer a plethora of perspectives to stimulate new visions and concrete ideas for biophilic and equitable innovation. Ranging from critique and speculative scenarios to constructive solutions, they can serve as inspiration to overcome the current impasses in our collective imaginary and enliven the potential for life-affirming futures.

Fedorova concluded that we need theory (and thus we need the humanities):

  • To analyze, to criticize, to disrupt, to expose
  • To empower, to fight social injustice, to enhance diversity
  • To start (grassroots) activism in order to reclaim agency.

There are many creative ways to locate these questions on the ground.
