Over the last decades, replacement has often been prioritized over repair whenever products become defective. Insufficient incentives have been given to consumers to repair their goods when the legal guarantee expires. To support the objectives of the European Green Deal and to reduce waste, the European Commission now has adopted a new proposal on common rules promoting repair.
