Welcome to The Village says goodbye to waste and fossils
A festival can be seen as a temporary village on a place where there are normally no facilities for electricity, clean drinking water, showers, food etc. This is also the case for Welcome to The Village: a festival in the middle of the "Groen Ster", close to Leeuwarden. How do we manage to create a fossil free and waste free village, when facilities should all be build on the spot? Welcome to The Village challenge themselves to be fully circular and fossil free in 2022!
The first steps are already taken. This year, the festival has taken the following measurements:
- Thanks to the recycling company Omrin and the municipality of Leeuwarden, all the waste on the festival will be sorted and recycled on Ecopark De Wierde in Heerenveen
- The artist and crew catering will be fully vegetarian on Sunday, which will save three million liter of water
- This year the festival introduced reusable cups with a deposit fee
- The use of biodegradable plates, cutlery and coffee cups is mandatory
- The water which is used to rinse glass, will be reused as rinse water for toilets.
- All the furniture used at the festival is made of old furniture coming from the recycling company Omrin.
- Old merchandise clothes were recycled to baby clothes
- All crew food left overs won't be thrown away, but processed in dinner the next day.
- Halve of the toilets are eco toilets which don't use water!
