Yesterday, we kicked off the Thesis Labs with all Lab students and partners. In the months to come, they will dive deep into complex but important sustainability issues.
How can we speed up the transition to sustainable energy in horticulture? How do we establish a just climate transition in the city of The Hague? How can we stimulate sustainable behavior and implementation in healthcare? And so much more.
To bring in the FUN, we started with a game: the En-ROADS Climate Action Simulation Game. Students and caseholders role-played as lobby groups attending a UN summit, where Secretary-General António Guterres asked them to take collective measures to keep temperature rise at a maximum of 1.5 degrees. This led to many key insights about the interdependency of different solutions.
I was surprised to see how deeply everything is interconnected."
I realized that maybe we already have most of the solutions we need, but the biggest challenge is putting the common interest at heart."
This is exactly what the Labs are all about—opening up to other perspectives, embracing complexity and uncertainty, finding new ways. We are very much looking forward to the odyssey ahead.
