Circularity researcher Gerben Stouten selected for ‘Faces of Science’ project

Gerben Stouten (PhD-student in Environmental Biotechnology at TU Delft) has been selected for the outreach project ‘Faces of Science’ (KNAW, De Jonge Akademie).

For Gerben Stouten, waste is not the problem but the solution. With his idea ‘Candy becomes plastic’, Gerben wants to solve the plastic waste issue in the world, by recovering resources from waste water, using bacteria that eat waste and produce bio plastic. In the project Candy becomes plastic, he collaborates with candybar producer Mars.

Faces of Science is an online platform of young researchers targeted at students in both universities and high schools. Faces of Science is a project of the the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and its ‘ ‘Young Academy’ (De Jonge Akademie).  On the website,  PhD students blog about their work. The website is in Dutch.
